چکیده

Of eight main selected coastal fish species; Baltic sprat, herring, smelt, eelpout, four-horn sculpin, perch, flounder and turbot, five; herring, smelt, eelpout, four-horn sculpin, flounder, seem most suitable for heavy metal monitoring in coastal waters in the Norhern Baltic Sea. In general low concentrations of Hg and Cd were measured from the edible parts (muscle tissue) of the fishes. Predatory species, as bull-rout, pike, perch, turbot, however were significantly more contaminated than non-predatory fishes. In a few cases the concentrations of Hg in muscle tissue of the investigated predatory fishes exceeded the stipulated safety levels for fish as food for human consumption. The concentrations of Hg were higher in inshore fishes compared to open-sea fishes. The concentrations of Cd were elevated in eelpouts from the Finnish Archipelago Sea, and the Gulf of Finland compared to eelpouts from the Gulf of Riga, and the Firth of Kiel. The same distinction also was valid for flounder from the waters around the Åland Islands, and the Gulf of Finland, compared to flounder from the Firth of Kiel.

Concentrations of Some Trace Metals in the Tissues of Two Commercial Fishes from Tonekabon

In this study, concentrations of mercury (Hg) and 16 other elements as well as methylmercury speciation were quantified in muscle and liver of two commercial fish species. It was also our intention to evaluate potential risks to human health associated with seafood consumption. The fish species, Mullet and Kutum (Caspian White fish) fishes, were obtained from Tonekabon at the Iranian waters of ...

Study on the accumulation of heavy metals (cadmium, copper, iron, tin, arsenic, lead and mercury) in the Indian white shrimp (Penaeus indicus) muscle tissue in Chabahar Bay, Bris and Pasabandar

Shrimps are one of the most important seafood sources for humans. Heavy metals accumulated in the body of shrimp can be transmitted to humans in the food chain. The present study was done in 2017 to compare the accumulation of heavy metals Copper (Cu), Iron (Fe), Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Tin (Sn), Arsenic (As) and Mercury (Hg) in edible tissue of Indian white shrimp in the fishing grounds of th...

Assessment of heavy metals pollution in muscle of sole (Cynoglossus arel), spiny lobster (Panulirus homarus) and sediments in the northern coasts of the Oman Sea during pre and post monsoon

Concentrations of lead, copper, cadmium, and mercury were determined in sediments and two selected marine organisms (Cynoglossus arel and Panulirus homarus) collected from Jask Port, Darak Port, Pozm Port, Gulf of Chabahar and Gowatr Port in the north coasts of the Oman Sea during pre (spring) and post (autumn) monsoon in 2017. Heavy metals concentrations were determined by atomic absorption sp...

Concentration of heavy and toxic metals Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb and Hg in liver and muscles of Rutilus frisii kutum during spawning season with respect to growth parameters

Concentration of heavy and toxic metals Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb and Hg were determined in liver and muscles of Rutilus frisii kutum and their relationships with growth parameters (length, age, condition factor) and hepatosomatic index were examined. Thirty-six fish samples were collected from February through March 2009 caught by beach seine in the southwest parts of the Caspian Sea. Atomic absorption ...
